Starting Hot Shots with no experience
No experience is needed to join Swisse Hot Shots Tennis. The program is beginner-friendly. Coaches guide kids through games that develop skills, social interaction and confidence.
Hot Shots is for children aged 3–10+. It is the fun way to learn and play tennis, using scaled courts, lighter racquets and softer balls so the game fits the child from the first session.
What a beginner can expect
Kids are not asked to know the rules, own perfect technique, or keep score on day one. Sessions are games. The four stages meet children where they are.
New to movement and sport (about 3–5+): Blue uses play-based activities in a large, flat space. Kids practise running, jumping, throwing, catching and striking with age-appropriate gear.
Ready to hit (about 5–8+): Red introduces rallying with softer, larger red balls, 19–23 inch racquets, and scaled courts and nets.
Ready for points (about 8–10+): Orange uses a 50 per cent compression orange ball on scaled courts, with tactics, singles, doubles, teamwork and respect.
Ready for a bigger court (10+): Green uses 25–27 inch racquets and a 75 per cent compression green ball on full or modified courts, whether a child wants a relaxed hit or more of a challenge.
What to sort out before the first session
Ask the club or coach which stage fits your child. Many programs provide racquets to borrow when kids are starting out. Your coach or club will let you know what is needed. Having a racquet of your own can help later, for practice at home and for confidence, but it is not a requirement to begin.
Families can also ask about government sport vouchers. Many states and territories offer vouchers to help with sport costs — sometimes up to $500 per child or family. Your local tennis club may be able to guide you, and each state or territory website lists eligibility and details.
